Sunday Stealing--From LEP

Join us here.

1. Do you buy things when you want them or wait for sales?

Smaller items I get when I want them.  But if we’re talking large appliances, I will wait for a sale.  We waited for Lowe’s annual 4th of July sale when we bought our fridge and range and saved a mint.

2. Do you think time moves slowly or quickly?

It depends on whether I’m waiting for something fun.  Then slowly.  But in general, it just …. Moves.  I don’t think about it too much.

3. How often do you spend time alone?

Every day.  Hubs and I have a strong need for personal time.  I’m glad we agree, it would be unpleasant if we didn’t.  We usually watch a few shows together in the evenings, and then he wanders off to his office to do what he does.  I read, blog, and watch stuff he could care less about (mainly Chopped, Top Chef, and historical dramas).

4. What’s something that has changed in the last month?

My health.  I’m really pissed at my body right now.  I’m managing to keep the low sodium issues at bay, but the repetitive stress injury in my right arm is giving me constant pain.  I have almost zero pain tolerance, so I’m irritable constantly.  I start twice a week therapy on Monday and am religiously doing my exercises and watching my ergonomics.  This is the worst episode yet of this.

5. What’s the best part of your job, profession?

A near-endless number of options.  Just in my 30 year career, I have been a critical care RN, an OR circulating RN, a surgical step-down RN, a long-term care RN, a Risk Manager, a Director of Nurses for a skilled nursing facility, a consulting RN for the long-term care industry, an inpatient case manager for an insurance company, a utilization review RN, a data abstraction RN, and now a charge integrity auditor.  That’s just the tip of the iceberg for the possibilities available to a nurse.

6. How many pens do you have?

Seven.  Six of them are Pilot G2s in blue.  The other hubs recently bought me to help with my arm pain—it is a Pilot Dr. Grip—he even got me my favorite blue ink refills.

7. What are your healthiest habits?

Walking most days, although I am lazy by nature and use Maddie as an excuse to get out there.  Saying “no”, which took decades to learn, and which I still struggle with.  Making breakfast every morning.  I am a big breakfast person and really enjoy starting the day with something healthy and delicious.  Most recently, I’ve been having a slice of Dave’s Killer Thin-Sliced “Good Seed” Bread toasted, topped with ½ a Hass Avocado and a poached egg with Trader Joe’s Everything Bagel seasoning sprinkled on top.  It’s healthy, tasty, gooey, and decadent.   My favorite breakfast.

8. Do you have a favorite postage stamp?

I like the forever stamps, and the recent Northwest Native American style Raven was pretty cool.

9. Who did you talk to the most this week?

Hubs.

10. What’s on your bedside table?

Pill box, lamp, glass of water, tissues

11. How often do you try something new?

I’m pretty stuck in my ways, but I love to stretch myself in cooking.  I got several new cookbooks for Christmas, and I’ve been trying lots of new recipes.  Stay tuned for Hawaij Chicken Stew this weekend—I found it on the Silk Road Diaries blog of my favorite spice purveyor, World Spice Merchants.  The stew is based on a wonderful Yemeni spice blend called Hawaij.  Mom has never eaten so many international cuisines in her life, and it makes me happy that she actually is enjoying it!

12. What are some of your grocery list staples?

The aforementioned Dave’s Killer Good Seed Thin-Sliced Bread, Avocados, Nellie’s Eggs, Lactose-Free 1% Milk, Family-Size Sabra traditional Hummus, Triscuits, Cracker Barrel extra-sharp cheddar, Lettuce, Hillshire Black Forest Ham, sliced swiss cheese, Chicken Stock.  Pretty much buy this stuff every time we shop (we shop every two weeks).

13. Do you have a favorite poet?

I have always loved Maya Angelou, but I confess I am not a poetry connoisseur.

14. What interesting fact do you know?

I am a font of useless and interesting facts.  For example, did you know that here in New Mexico, the green chile cheeseburger is so revered that national chain McDonalds actually has a green chile double cheeseburger on the menu.  We are serious about our food here in NM.

15. Do you fold laundry right away or do it later?

I hang or fold right away.  Hubs throws it on top of the dryer, which drives me batshit.

  1. I feel like I have no pain tolerance either. I hate aging and I am still a bit young for the pain. Take care. Loved your answers! Have a great day! ♥

  3. My favorite pen is also a Pilot G2 (05), the fine point. But I prefer black ink. You asked about the video game from the Sat 9 question. It's Elvenar, which is a city building game. No fighting, just trading goods and doing quests that involve upgrading buildings or making more goods.

  4. Sorry about your arm pain. I dealt with that for years. I have been using a trackball for the computer for about 20 years. It saved my shoulder. My husband and I are both retired. We both spend several hours apart doing our own thing. We watch a few tv programs we both like. We have been married 47 years. He is a homebody and I like to go with my friends. We go out to eat a couple of times a week. He does most of the cooking and I do cleanup. That was nice that your husband got you a new pen. I might have to look into Dave's Killer bread!
