Reading: Ma’am Darling—99 Glimpses of Princess Margaret by Craig Brown. Thanks to The Gal Herself at One Gal’s Musings for the suggestion. I really something completely different from the dystopian fiction I’ve been reading lately.
"Brown ignores all the starchy obligations of biography and adopts a form of his own to trap the past and ensnare the reader ― even this reader, so determinedly indifferent to the royals. I ripped through the book with the avidity of Margaret attacking her morning vodka and orange juice . . . The wisdom of the book, and the artistry, is in how Brown subtly expands his lens from Margaret’s misbehavior ― sometimes campy, sometimes desperate ― to those who gawked at her, who huddled around her, pens poised over their diaries, hoping for the show she never denied them."—Parul Sehgal, The New York Times
Listening to: the heat running. It got cold in the house last night, and we got some snow.
Loving: my new breakfast thing. Breakfast is my happy meal, and I try to change it up once a month or so, just to keep things interesting. I’m enjoying Thomas’ Bagel Thins, with whipped cream cheese, a sprinkling of capers, and wild Alaskan smoked salmon. My version of Bagels and Lox! Yummy.
Thinking: I need to get over to Mom’s this week and help her sign up for HBOMax. I’ve been watching The Gilded Age from Downton Abbey’s Julian Fellowes, and loving it, and Mom is very interested in checking it out.
Feeling: Rested. I decided to sleep in until 630 this morning, instead of getting up at 5 and working on the side gig. I’ll make up the hour this afternoon.
Celebrating: My excellent evaluation at work for the year. Considering I changed jobs in the middle of the year, I’m pretty happy about it, and the raise that comes with it. Into the 401K it shall go! (Every time I get a raise that’s where it goes—I started saving way to late in life, so I’ve got lost time to make up for).
Grateful for: A roof over my head, a good job, a full pantry, and a family who loves me.
Weather: Sunny with a high of 46. It’s 25 right now, feels like 14. Brrrrrrr. It snowed last night, but not much. I’m going to bundle up at lunch and get Maddie out for a walk.
Enjoying: the new audit we are doing, which is much more interesting than the last one. The last one was mind-numbing, basically reading the same page over and over 300 times looking for minute, but costly, issues. It’s hard to stay focused on something so freakin’ repetitive. The whole team is thrilled that one is over, and we found tons of issues, which makes the bosses happy.
A quote I want to share:
